ATLANTA — Delta Air Lines says it’s not using personal data to decide ticket prices. This response comes after people online started talking about its new AI ticket pricing system.
Delta has introduced its AI system on a limited scale, applying it to only 3% of domestic routes departing from Atlanta International Airport. But by the end of 2025, it plans to use it on many more flights.
Rumors Cause Public Anger
A rumor that Delta’s AI ticket pricing system checks people’s income or personal details made many people angry. Some experts also raised concerns.
Delta has denied these claims. The airline says the system uses market changes, not personal info.
According to Delta President Glen Hauenstein, the AI-driven tool is fully integrated with the airline’s traditional pricing rules, ensuring consistency & reliability in fare calculations. It doesn’t create unfair prices based on who you are.
At the moment, the AI system doesn’t affect most tickets. But Delta wants to use it on 20% of its domestic flights by 2025.
What Is Dynamic Pricing?
Airlines change ticket prices all the time. They raise or lower prices depending on things like how many seats are left, when the flight leaves, and what other airlines are charging.
This method is called dynamic pricing. Airlines have used it for years. In the past, people had to update the prices by hand.
Now, Delta wants AI to do the work faster. The system can look at a lot of information and update prices quickly.
It doesn’t use your name, search history, or anything personal. It just watches the market.
Delta Clears the Air
Some people thought the AI ticket pricing system looked at income or past searches. Delta says this is not true. It says it’s not testing any system that checks personal info.
Delta also says it follows all pricing rules. The company says only market data affects prices, not who is booking.
By using AI, Delta hopes to adjust prices faster. Even small changes on busy routes can earn more money.
