Air India and Air Mauritius Expand Codeshare to Enhance India–Africa Connectivity Starting July 1

PUNE: Air India and Air Mauritius are making travel easier. They’ve expanded their codeshare deal. This means more flights across India and Africa.

The two airlines signed the new agreement during the 81st IATA meeting in New Delhi. Campbell Wilson from Air India and Kishore Beegoo from Air Mauritius were both there.

Now, their codes will be on 17 different routes. These include cities in India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.

Air India will now add its ‘AI’ code to flights run by Air Mauritius. These go to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and Antananarivo in Madagascar. Passengers can take one ticket for the whole trip. Bags will go straight to the final stop. Air India already codeshares on flights between Mauritius and Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi, plus Réunion.

Air Mauritius already puts its ‘MK’ code on many Air India flights. These go from Mumbai to cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Goa. Some flights also go from Delhi to Bengaluru and Chennai.

Under the new deal, Air Mauritius will also add its code to the Mauritius-Mumbai route. So, every flight between India and Mauritius will carry both airline codes. This gives more flight choices to travelers.

Campbell Wilson from Air India said India is a big tourism market for places like Mauritius and South Africa. He also said India is an important trade partner for the region. He believes this deal makes their global network stronger. It will help travelers reach more places with less hassle.

Kishore Beegoo from Air Mauritius said the partnership gives their passengers many options in India. Flights will go through Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai. He also said travelers from India will enjoy Mauritius. It has a mix of cultures and great local food. From there, they can go on to places like Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar.

You can book the new codeshare flights starting July 1. Tickets will be available on both airlines’ websites and through travel agents.
