Air India flight slightly skids during Mumbai landing

An Air India Airbus A320, flying as flight A12744 from Kochi, skidded slightly off the runway during landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). Heavy rain was falling in Mumbai at the time.

Passengers safe, no injuries reported

Every passenger on board is safe. They exited the aircraft without any injuries.

Rain causes runway excursion

The plane slipped a bit during landing. Mumbai’s intense rainfall played a big role. Initial reports say the pilot managed to control the plane. He got it back on track and stopped safely.

Runway damaged, alternate runway activated

The airport confirmed the event happened at 9:27 AM. Due to minor surface damage, operations on primary Runway 09/27 were halted & the traffic was redirected to the secondary Runway 14/32.

Aircraft grounded for checks

Air India has begun normal safety inspections. More checks are happening now.

The airline confirmed the plane went off the runway after landing in heavy rain. Still, it taxied safely to the gate. All passengers got off. The aircraft is now grounded for a full check.

Mumbai rains disrupt flight operations

Heavy rain fell across Mumbai overnight. Low-lying areas flooded. According to civic authorities, the traffic slowdown is a clear sign the city needs urgent traffic management solutions.

IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air warned passengers of delays. Flight operations in Mumbai were hit by the weather.

Earlier this month, the city saw a dry period. But late Sunday, rain returned with force. Rainfall slowed in the island part of the city by morning, but suburbs kept getting hit.

From Sunday to Monday morning, the island part saw 23.45 mm of rain. Eastern suburbs got 36.42 mm, and western suburbs received 50.02 mm, the city’s municipal report said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects more rain. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are likely in the next 24 hours across Mumbai and nearby areas.

Officials also warned of two high tides: one at 9.19 AM with 3.91 meters and another at 8.37 PM with 3.38 meters.
