Jersey Airport is changing its departures area in a big way. Soon, travelers can enjoy Jersey Airport redesign a new restaurant, enhanced shopping options, peaceful quiet zones as well as scenic views of the runway.
Work starts in August. It will take about 14 months to finish. Ports of Jersey says there will be some mess while things get built.
Still, the goal is to give passengers a warm & fresh space. The design will show off the island’s look, nature and culture.
The previously complimentary upstairs viewing area has been reclassified as a paid lounge for premium guests. It opens this week.
Ports of Jersey says the full design & cost are not ready yet. But the team wants to meet the needs of travelers today—very different from 1997, when the area first opened.
They want to make the space comfy & easy for all. The aim is to leave visitors with a strong memory of Jersey.
What’s changing in the departure lounge?
- A new restaurant with hot meals all day
- A new drinks bar with a fresh look
- The same number of shops but in a better space, showing off local Jersey products
- A bigger duty-free shop
- Quiet zones for those who need a break, including a calm “sunflower room”
- A space just for families
- Clear views of the runway
The redesign comes after hearing from the public. People asked for local touches instead of plain, boring airport spaces.
The first steps will move staff areas to open paths for travelers. Seating will be shifted. A small café will pop up. The help desk will go.
Matt Thomas, CEO of Ports of Jersey, says, “We know this big build may cause trouble for a while. But in the end, we’ll have a bright, smart and very Jersey space. Thanks for your patience we hope the island will be proud.”
